What is an instrumentation?
Instrumentation is often used in control and measurement. In the instrumentation we use devices (instruments) which measure, control and regulate physical process variables such as temperature, level, flow or pressure.
Examples of Instrumentation devices:
- Pressure Instrumentation

- Flow measurement
Very often Control and Instrumentation Engineer looks after all those devices.
Control and instrumentation engineer (C&I engineer)
C&I engineer is responsible for designing ( for example P&ID diagrams), installing, managing and maintaining equipment and devices which are used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery and processes.
The main objective of the work of Control and instrumentation engineers is to ensure that these systems and processes operate effectively, efficiently and safely. They usually work for the companies who manufacture and supply the equipment or for the companies who use it. C&I engineers need a thorough understanding of the operational processes of an organisation and have a truly multidisciplinary role, working closely with colleagues across a number of functions, including operations, purchasing and design.
